Psychosexual Therapy

What is it?
Psychosexual therapy (also known as sex therapy) is a specialized form of counseling that focuses on sexual wellbeing and intimacy issues. It’s a talk-based therapy – there is no physical examination – that helps individuals or couples address the mental, emotional, and relationship factors behind sexual challenges.
What does it help with?
A wide range of issues, but some common ones include difficulties with sexual function or satisfaction (for example, low libido, difficulty with arousal or orgasm, erectile dysfunction, or pain during sex). It also helps with mismatched sex drives between partners and communication breakdowns about intimacy. It can assist with questions about sexual orientation, “coming out,” or gender transition, and it supports those exploring kink or non-traditional relationships in a non-judgmental way. Even changes in sexual health due to life stages, medical conditions, or disability can be navigated in sex therapy.
Who is it for?
How does it work?
This therapy is for anyone (individuals or couples) experiencing sexual difficulties, concerns, or simply wishing to enhance their intimate relationships. It’s equally open to men, women, and LGBTQ+ clients.
Psychosexual therapy works much like other forms of counselling, but with a focus on sexual topics. Some of the strategies used in therapy can include education about sex and sexual function, learning communication skills, psychological techniques to manage anxiety, or specific intimacy exercises to try at home. All recommendations are evidence-based and tailored to your needs. Sessions are talk-only, so you'll never be asked to perform or demonstrate anything in session.
